Supercharge Your Art Fair Experience With Getafiesta

Post By Joe Leonard

If you’re a lifelong art fair attendee, then chances are you already know all the tricks about navigating the different galleries, conversations, and exhibitions a festival has to offer.  But now that art fairs like Art Brussels and Art Basel are swapping their in-person exhibitions for online viewing rooms, you might find yourself hardpressed to make the most of your online experience.  Never fear!  Getafiesta is here to help you maximize the value of your festival and ensure both artists and creators across the globe can get their fix.

Art Basel OVR: Pioneers

There are a few examples of online presence in the world of Contemporary art, like Art Basel’s online viewing rooms- which only recently closed their show.  Art Basel’s “OVR: Pioneers” was giving you the access you need to almost 800 works by 200 pathbreaking artists.  OVR Pioneers, like many recent online art opportunities, was also accessible to global visitors until March 28th and didn’t require any tickets or registration to attend.  Their online viewing rooms focused on artists who have “broken new ground in terms of their aesthetics, conceptual approach, sociopolitical themes and use of mediums”.

Audiences got to flit in and out of rooms such as the Critical Languages of Culture room that explores the breathtaking work of Blessing Ngobeni and Rashaad Newsome.  These two contemporary artists are from the same gallery but two entirely different continents, with both combining images and photographs with custom paints and 3D objects to create powerful statements about culture and expression.

Art Brussels Online Week

In addition to its offline Contemporary art gallery tour this year, Art Brussels has launched a new online platform to open its wide range of exhibitions to visitors from all over the world.  Originally scheduled for April 22-25, the online viewing rooms of Art Brussels will now be made available to the public between June 2-14 to coincide with its offline gallery tour from June 3-6.

No registration or tickets are needed to attend these online viewing rooms.  All you need to do is click on the link and browse through works from galleries such as the oil paintings of Lehmann + Silva in Portugal and the photography of ADN Galeria in Barcelona.  If any of these 1500+ Contemporary paintings, photographs, or sculptures catch your eye, you can click on them and enquire further about acquiring them.  You can even drop a thread on Getafiesta’s Art Forum to discuss your favorite pieces with other art-lovers!

Art Basel Hong Kong

As more and more countries begin to ease up on lockdown restrictions after Covid-19, we’re slowly but surely returning to a world in which we can once again enjoy art in person.  Art Basel has announced its upcoming Hong Kong art fair for May 21-23 of this year.  At the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong, the public can browse through the works of galleries from Asia and Asia-Pacific.

Art Basel Hong Kong is even offering free guided tours in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin to walk you through pieces from galleries such as Alisan Fine Arts or Blum & Poe, which examines the historical work of movements like the Japanese Mono-ha school or the Korean Dansaekhwa monochrome painters.  While information isn’t yet available on purchasing tickets, we’ll keep you updated on Getafiesta when we know more.

Calling All Creators

Art fairs are a magnet for both art lovers and creators alike.  If you’re looking to submit your gallery’s work to one of these fairs, both Art Brussels and Art Basel allow you to apply online.  Any artists or creators who are looking to get their work into the art fairs or connect with those who have been featured can head to the Getafiesta Creators & Submissions Forum.  And, as always, be sure to follow Getafiesta and check out our Art Fairs Forum to find out the latest art fair news and connect with other art lovers!
