The annual event is organized by Tribeca Enterprises and holds in New York City during the spring. Each year, several thousands of attendees are treated to hundreds of screenings, including the best and diverse collection of featured films, episodic, talks, music, games, art, and immersive programming. The event also awards independent artists in over 20 juried competitive filmmaking categories, with winners picked from hundreds of thousands of submissions from the public.
When Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2001, they only wanted the festival to champion the cultural and economic revival of the lower Manhattan on the back of the 9/11 attacks. However, the festival has gradually graduated to become one of the most-attended film events in the United States in the world at large.
While the 2020 edition of the festival failed to hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 edition is set to hold. The organizers recently announced plans to return in 2021, with the event scheduled to run from June 9 to 20 in New York City.
All plans are in place to ensure the activities of the 19th edition and the 20th anniversary of the Tribeca Film Festival proceed in the safest environment.
