Sundance Film Festival

Event Info

The Sundance Film Festival is one of the largest independent film festivals in the United States. It is organized by the Sundance Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the discovery and development of bold, creative, and independent artists and audiences. Since its first edition in September 1978 in Salt Lake City, the festival has grown into one of the most celebrated and respected film festivals in the United States. It holds every January in Salt Lake City, Utah, Park City, and at the Sundance Resort.

Over 50,000 attendees, including industry insiders and the filmographic public, are treated to between 100 and 200 feature films during the festival. The week-long event usually culminates with the awards ceremony, where outstanding filmmakers are awarded prizes in up to 10 competitive categories, including documentaries and dramatic films, featuring length and short films originating in the United States or elsewhere.

Due to the pandemic, the Sundance Institute has announced that the 2021 edition of the Sundance Film Festival will include an online platform featuring seven days of premieres, events, panel discussions, workshops, artist talks, and best-in-class XR exhibitions. However, the Institute will also be working with independent cinema communities across the United States and other countries to ensure the safe hosting of in-person events.
