Berlin Intl Film Festival

Event Info

The Berlin International Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, is a film festival held annually in Berlin, Germany. It is popularly referred to as part of the “Big Three,” including the Cannes Film Festival in France and the Venice Film Festival in Italy. Since the first edition in 1951, the festival has grown to become one of the most attended film festivals globally, welcoming tens of thousands of attendees from around the world every year.

The festival is an assembly of the big stars of international cinema and the new talents. It is a platform that rewards outstanding filmmakers of all disciplines, bringing them into the spotlight and supporting their visions, dreams, projects, and careers. There are seven different film categories in the festival: Competition, Panorama, Forum, Generation, Perspektive Deutsches Kino, Berlinale Shorts, and Retrospective.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the 2021 edition of the Berlin International Film Festival will not take place from February 11-21 as planned. Instead, the organizers have planned the event in two stages to adhere to health and safety guidelines while maintaining the two supporting pillars of the event: festival and film market.

  • The first stage is the virtual part, which will hold from March 1 to 5 - an online offer for the industry platforms: The World Cinema Fund, Berlinale Talents, Berlinale Co-Production Market, and the European Film Market.

  • This will be followed by the second stage, which is the physical edition - a summer event with several film screenings in cinemas and open-air, to be attended by public audiences in June.

Tickets information will be available closer to the time of the festival.
